Management Team

Apertio’s management team brings together the brightest minds from the telecommunications and IT worlds. The company founders were principle architects and developers of the mobile infrastructure that now supports the Vodafone and Orange networks in the UK, and include senior figures from Orange, Mannesmann, Lucent, Motorola, LogicaCMG, Siebel and Oracle.

Paul Magelli

Paul Magelli - Chief Executive Officer

As co-founder and CEO, Paul brings his natural leadership and entrepreneurial zeal to Apertio's management, sales and business development. Before founding Apertio, Paul had already been involved in the telecoms and software industries for more than 20 years, both with start-up companies and large corporations.

Creating and establishing successful new businesses is a familiar role for him; during the past ten years Paul has led the development of three $100 million businesses from their inception. As Director of Sales for Lucent Worldwide Services, Paul successfully developed business worth over $120 million in software and related services.

Michael Welbourne

Michael Welbourne - Chief Technology Officer

A co-founder of Apertio, Michael is responsible for Apertio's innovative suite of mobility applications. Michael previously worked for IPL, where as lead architect and designer he was the driving force behind many highly visible projects for Vodafone, Orange, BT and HP.

He subsequently founded Invergence Ltd, a successful software development company specialising in high performance software systems enhancing the service portfolios of mobile network operators. Michael managed the company's business operations as well as designing and implementing its products. Michael's 16 years' experience in developing complex, enterprise-critical, intelligent networking (IN) and core network applications includes the design and implementation of the Vodafone HLR and related infrastructure software, now used in five global operating companies, as well as a broad range of applications across the core network of Orange.

Andrew Wyatt

Andrew Wyatt - Chief Product Operations Officer

Responsible for all areas of marketing including Product Operations - management, marketing, engineering and quality - Andrew brings to Apertio skills gained from 20 years of marketing experience within the telecoms and software industries. He joined from Intuwave Ltd where he was Vice President of Sales and Marketing, successfully repositioning Intuwave within the Smartphone market and driving its product portfolio.

Andrew spent his early career at Lotus Development in Europe and the US helping manage the company through the high growth days of the PC revolution, before joining Paragon Software Ltd where he helped drive the record sale of the company to Phone.com (now Openwave) in 2000. Following the acquisition of Paragon, Andrew held several roles at Openwave, including VP Marketing, where he established the company as a leader in open IP-based communication infrastructure software and applications.

Paul Gill

Paul Gill - Chief Customer Operations Officer

With an extensive background in mobile communications, Paul's management remit spans customers in Europe, the Americas and Asia. Prior to his role at Apertio, Paul was Commercial Director of Xenicom and previously Director of Radio Planning at LogicaCMG, where Paul was responsible for the growth and development of these network planning businesses.

Previously Paul was successful as Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director of Aethos Communications Systems, the company that defined the Prepay infrastructure market in the late 1990’s. He successfully managed its integration after the 1998 acquisition by LogicaCMG. At LogicaCMG Paul was responsible for vastly expanding the customer base and establishing it as a global market leader.

Ralf Holighaus

Ralf Holighaus - Vice President and General Manager

Previously CEO of Netzwert, the AAA and BSF provider recently acquired by Apertio, Ralf is responsible for Apertio’s policy enabled product set. Ralf co-founded Netzwert in 2000 and has more than ten years of expertise in technical marketing and systems integration.

Prior to co-founding Netzwert AG, Ralf served as product manager at NetCS Informationstechnik GmbH, where he was responsible for SNA and TCP/IP based communication products. Later, his position was product marketing manager of Isocor Germany with responsibility for the N-PLEX Messaging Server, which, after Critical Path’s acquisition of Isocor, is now sold as Memova (R) Messaging.

Paul Donnelly

Paul Donnelly - Services Vice President

A co-founder, Paul provides Apertio with 20 years' technical and managerial experience in the telecoms and IT industries. As a director at Lucent, Paul led the project management, development, delivery and system integration of the numerous products, including Home Location Register, Prepaid, Service Location Register, Configuration Management System, to Tier 1 European mobile operators. Paul has extensive experience with Orange, Viag and E-Plus in designing and deploying Intelligent Network, SMSC, and Voice Mail software systems in mobile networks.

Kevin Wakefield

Kevin Wakefield - Chief Software Architect

One of Apertio's co-founders, Kevin is responsible for Apertio's unique software architecture. His 20 years of extensive experience in complex, mission critical, real-time software systems includes the original design and implementation of the Orange SDF and SLR systems. As one of the co-founders of Invergence Ltd, he managed the design and implementation of customer projects including the Orange LSB and VPN products, as well as the company's X.500 in memory directory products. Prior to Invergence, Kevin was with IPL, focusing on the design and delivery of telecommunications and defence systems, and with GCHQ as a scientific officer in the mathematics division.

Rob Holditch

Rob Holditch - EMEA Vice President

Rob is responsible for growing Apertio’s business within this diverse region. He leads a team which has a local presence across EMEA. He joined Apertio from Siemens Mobile Networks where he held a succession of senior account management positions, managing tier one operators.

Prior to this, Rob was with Lucent Technologies, where he worked on the commercial delivery of the first Orange next generation HLR and a range of other Intelligent Network Applications based in x500 database technology.

W. Stuart Jones

W. Stuart Jones - Americas Vice President & General Manager

Stuart brings entrepreneurial experience as well as product and technology vision to his Americas management role within Apertio.

With eleven US and international patents, Stuart has extensive experience in product and technology planning and development. He has been responsible for network system strategy and development in wireless communications for over 15 years. After a successful career spanning research, product development and product management at Motorola, he was co-founder and CEO of Visogent Technologies, a software development company designing software infrastructure for mobile operators. Previously, as worldwide technical lead for Motorola, Stuart led technical strategic analysis teams searching for, and selecting, partners to complete Motorola's seamless IP-solution's vision. Stuart has worked with successful startups in the wireless data space.

Rajeev Sunder

Rajeev Sunder - Asia Vice President & General Manager

As Asia Vice President & General Manager, Rajeev is responsible for the consolidation and growth of Apertio’s business in the region - managing operator and service provider relationships from bases in Malaysia and Thailand. Rajeev joins from ADC Software Systems, where he was Managing Director Asia Pacific, and brings with him 17 years of expertise within the software, IT and telecommunications industries.

As MD of ADC, Rajeev has spent the past five years securing and managing relationships with over 60 mobile operators in 15 countries across Asia Pacific. Prior to this, he has held a number of high profile business development, consulting and management roles in the region.

Wallace Ascham

Wallace Ascham - Partners Vice President

A co-founder of Apertio and Partners Vice President, Wallace uses his 15 years + communications to build and manage a best of breed global partner ecosystem for Apertio. Previously, as UK Customer Support Manager for Lucent Technologies, Wallace was responsible for all products installed in the UK, including complex optical and data networks, and the world's largest Intelligent Network. During his time as Business Manager for Lucent's UK and Ireland Services division, Wallace was instrumental in its five-fold growth in revenues.

Prior to Lucent, Wallace was part of Shaye Communications, a market leading UK digital communications company, managing OEM marketing and sales across Europe and Asia as well as heading up global customer support. At Apertio, Wallace is responsible for global partner sales and marketing.
